The aim of this project is to build an international, cost-effective value chain that closes the material loop: from selection and logistics, through storage and pre-treatment, to recycling and co-processing in the cement industry. The project involves adapting existing infrastructure, launching \"end-of-life\" waste streams, and demonstrating solvolytic recycling with fiber and resin recovery for composite re-production. Vitrimer technology, thanks to thermally reversible cross-linking, enables reshaping and repair of the material, as well as a real circular economy. By the end of the project, the consortium will scale up synthesis to TRL 5, preparing the material for prototype validation in transport interior applications, including seat structures and Starting from already existing pilot plants, BIOSAFIRE upscalesand broadens the available feedstocks to provide flame retardant in powder formats for five applications in four different sectors: naval, railway, household goods and wood coatings.<\/p><p>Featuring the same fire retardancy performance as chosen toxic benchmarks and enhancingsafety and sustainability with an 80% of biobased content, BIOSAFIRE aspires to not only demonstrate its targets on 5 use cases, but also to create a material portfolio and a set of processing guidelines to enhance flame retardants substitution by the industry. However, their recyclability remains a major challenge. The TOSCA (Manufacturing Processes and Digital Tools for more Sustainable Composite Aerostructures)project is addressing this issue by developing an innovative processing chain for epoxy vitrimer resins\u2014materials that combine the strength of conventional composites with enhanced recyclability.<\/p><p>This Horizon Europe-funded initiative officially started in January, 2025 and is set to run for 36 months, with a budget of over \u20ac 5.1 million.
